The OEI Experience

The Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute is an experience unlike any other offered to Iowa college students.

Testimonials

  • (The Iowa Lakes Corridor) and OEI represented the area well and put together a great program. Highlight of my summer.

Matt Zilley (University of Northern Iowa, 2019)
  • (OEI is) completely different from what they can teach you in the classroom. It’s so much more hands-on. Even though it is simulated, you physically are really doing it.

Teshia Smith (University of Northern Iowa, OEI Class of 2016)
  • I’ve always loved Iowa and I’ve always wanted to stay around here. Hearing all these people who are passionate about this area and they love it just as much as I do, it’s just confirmation that whatever I do, I want to stay here.

Callie Hoffman (Buena Vista University, OEI Class of 2015)
  • We’ve been to a whole lot of entrepreneurial events – Miami, San Diego, Chicago, New York, Seattle. This one has surpassed them all already and I’m only into the second day.

Matthew Rooda (University of Iowa, SwineTech, OEI Class of 2016)
  • Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that turns into a lifetime of opportunities.

Janice Timmerman (Buena Vista University, OEI Class of 2016)
  • It was an amazing, life-enhancing time! If I could go through it again, I would.

Geert Boelen (Iowa State University, 2019)
  • Thanks so much for doing this. Never stop, it's crazy impactful.

Lincoln Rock (Buena Vista University, 2019)
  • What an opportunity that no other college students really get. This is incredible.

Mason Cook (Iowa State University, OEI Class of 2015)
  • There’s a huge entrepreneurship community here that wants to see young people succeed. And I think that’s awesome. I think that’s what Okoboji has that’s very special.

Darian Jones (University of Northern Iowa, OEI Class of 2015)
  • I am so glad a program like this exists. This really did live up to the hype of being the best hands-on learning experience!

Kate Gylten (University of Iowa, 2019)
  • It’s cool to see people that have been successful themselves, but are willing to help others and just pour into us.

Derek Jones (Iowa State University, OEI Class of 2016)

The OEI Story

Est. 2006

Every August, OEI brings 32 of the sharpest entrepreneurial minds from four of Iowa’s higher education institutions – Buena Vista University, Iowa Lakes Community College, Iowa State University, University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa – to the Iowa Lakes region for a week-long, college credit course that is unmatched by any other program in the state.

Since its founding in 2006 by a core group of Okoboji entrepreneurs, OEI has received tremendous community support. The program is funded by sponsors both local and across the state of Iowa. OEI would also not be possible without the many volunteers who give their time as host families, student mentors and evening event hosts.
